I was inspired to write this article, not by all the New Year’s resolutions posts and articles, but rather from something a beautiful yoga teacher ( Jen Stow) said this morning in her practice: Rather than setting a New Year’s resolution for self improvement why not focus on self acceptance. She mentioned that winter is not the time for growth and big changes. I totally agree!
As I look out at nature during the deep freeze I see majestic trees in full stillness and peace. They are not trying to grow branches or bloom to be pretty and green. They are not frustrated about their state of being. They just are.
We are constantly in the act of creating ourselves. We, in every moment, are deciding who and what we are through our choices. We are our own rule maker. We set the guidelines. We dance between control and surrender, pushing and letting go. When to push and when to let go becomes part of the creative process of the open-ended exploration of our being.
Know that there is power in relaxation, in letting go, in love, joy and bliss. Cultivating a deep inner listening allows us to foster the sensitivity to fine tune all that we do. Quieting our body and mind can help to viscerally process and let go of stored emotions. It is only in stillness that we may hear the soft whispers of our soul.
Our true power lies in releasing resistance. The art of surrender, relaxation and letting go will bring us deeper to who we are.
LET GO of regrets and past hurts.
LET GO of all thoughts that don’t make you feel empowered and strong
LET GO of feeling guilty for doing what you truly want to do.
LET GO of the fear of the unknown. Take one small step and watch the path reveal itself.
LET GO of worrying. Worrying is like praying for what you don’t want.
LET GO of thinking you are damaged. You matter and the world needs you just as you are.
LET GO of thinking that everyone else is happier, more successful or better off than you.
LET GO of thinking that there is a right and wrong way to do or see the world. Enjoy the contrast and celebrate the diversity and richness of life.
LET GO of thinking your dreams are not important. Always, always, always follow your heart!
This New Year’s Resolution? To wake up every day and choose self love and acceptance.
